Hello,

regarding Hamburg, I have recently stayed few times at this hotel here:

http://www.hotel-phoenix.de/

It is just opposite the railway station. Oldish interior, but very clean and very friendly people. Close not only to the station but also to the metro to Landungsbr

I once used www.hotels.nl to book a hotel near Maasvlakte (Brielle). I think, this site might help you to find suitable hotel at Ijmuiden as well. There are as well reviews on this site, which might save you from unpleasant surprises (hopefully)  ;D

Greetings,

Cornelia

Hello Tore

You also can try to find a good place at a Seaman's Mission. Often they offer good and cheap accommodation. If you have a Seaman's book you get it cheaper .

If you are planning to see some ships in Hamburg, you cannot do better than choose the Rilano: http://www.rilano-hotel-hamburg.de/

It's a bit far from the city centre but excellent for ship watching.

These photos for example...

...have been taken directly from the hotel room. However: Don't forget to ask specifically for a central room on the top floor. Otherwise, all you'll see is the rear car park :-)

@Patalavaca: As I said, the Rilano is excellent for ship watching (you even have the sun in your back for 90% of the day). However, be advised that it is located relatively far from the city centre, in case you are interested in other activities (shopping, etc.) too.

It will take you some 45 mins to go from Hamburg central out to the hotel by Metro and Ferry.

The hotel is here: http://binged.it/I12eDT

The ferry stop - as you can see - is right next to the hotel. The Rilano mainly caters to clients of Airbus, which is located right next to the hotel.

Hi

I would not go to Hoek van Holland, maybe cheap but not very good conditions for shipspotting.
I prefer go to Hotel de Beer in the Europoort

http://www.hoteldebeer.nl/

Perfect if you want to go shipspotting,Close to the Europoort,Maasvlakte,Rozenburg, and the Beercanaal.
I have spoken to many shipspotters, how came visit Rotterdam, and the prefer Hotel the beer
