"night time photography of a ship moving is never going to happen (unfortunately)."

Not entirely true!! ;)

I was hoping to make her leaving the Forth but might end up driving down to the Tyne instead! Get some night time shots ;)

I HAVE TO PHOTOGRAPH HER before she is made into a fancy retail space.. :)

VESSEL ABANDONED AND DRIFTING MID CHANNEL

At just before midnight last night it was confirmed to the Coastguard at Brixham that all 20 crew had now abandoned the `Ice Prince which has is presently drifting and listing at 40 degrees to port. The stricken vessel has some navigation lights showing and some partial upper deck lights.

Twelve crew, including a 41 year old Greek national with a broken leg, were airlifted by the Coastguard helicopter late yesterday evening to Portland whilst the RNLI Torbay and Salcombe lifeboats took off the remaining 8 crew.

All were dressed in life jackets and immersion suits. A few minor injuries were reported in the evacuation of the vessel including bumps and bruises. The crew taken off by helicopter have been found some accommodation in the Torbay area whilst the injured man has been taken to Dorchester Hospital.

Wonder if it's anything to do with this? I'd imagine security would be less in a general cargo area compaired to oil/gas loading areas.

As a user of a SR162 i can thouroghly recomend getting your own AIS recieving equipment.

I currently as many others do share my data from my location to Ship Plotter COOA server so others can view my data if they have a registered copt of the software.

Ialso share my data to a free website call AIS Liverpool which provides good coverage of the UK. (live to public)

In regards to Worldwide your a bit limited, there is:

SiiTech Web Vts Web that has some coverage in Canada and the world (live to public)

Vessel Tracker which has some coverage in Europe. (delayed 1 hour for free account)

AIS Live some world coverage on paid version , free mostly Europe and very expensive for live coverage (free to public available but least one hour delay on free, limit to areas shown, no search ability etc)

AIS Live must be in bed with the goverment to restrict it's use so much and it's cost.

Things always happen for a reason may it be a member of staff or a Passenger .. and seeing the number of pasengers to staff statistically it would more often than not be a ppasenger. Staff as they have come in contact with so many viri in the course of thier duty are more likely to have sutable defenses against most common bugs.

As for the gel situation - The genral public are thier own worst enemy.

Such a sad incident. My thoughts are with the families and the survivor over this festive period.

The local paper has stated there is a salvage team/vessel being sent from the Netherlands around the start of the year, would anyone here know which vessel this may be so that it can be tracked on AIS to Glasgow..
