"Staff airlifted from blazing rig
Offshore workers are being airlifted from a drilling rig in the North Sea following an engine fire.

Helicopters began taking some of the 87 personnel off the installation once the blaze was reported on Tuesday evening.

The Ocean Guardian rig, which is owned by Diamond Offshore and has a potential drilling depth of 25,000ft, is located 120 miles north east of Aberdeen.

It is understood that the evacuees are being taken to other nearby installations."

I remember seeing that each or maybe it was between them they would have 36 Navalised F35's. Along with the other aircraft that it would have ie the Merlin etc.

Just seen on the BBC News that they set off the first of the charges, cracks now seem bigger but no dramatic separation etc.

Also reported on Sky/BBC etc.

"Authorities in Spain say they have scuppered a plot by a suspected member of Eta to blow up a ferry carrying thousands of British tourists, it is reported.

Aritz Arginzoniz Zubiarre, believed to be a member of the Basque separatist group, was detained at a bus station in the Spanish port of Santander.

Reports were conflicting about where in Britain the ferry would be headed.

But reports said the suspect had details of at least two potential targets at the time of his arrest.

One was the ferry linking Santander with Portsmouth, which carries up to 2,400 passengers, and another was a court in Santander."

None of the articles i've seen has mentioned the ferry that could have been involved..

Shipping News and information / Re: Bourbon Dolphin is sunk
« on: April 20, 2007, 08:09:12 PM »
Just noticed that a few minutes ago Two tugs the Olympic Hercules and Highland Valour have both left Aberdeen harbour on route to the Transocean Rather. There was another yesterday but cannot remember it's name. I guess this is to deal with what the Dolphin never finished than for any other reason.

If it was this unstable how on earth were they going to tow it to a harbour.. would have been another disaster if this sunk while being attached to a tug(s). 1.1km down could they recover this ship for investigation?

Thoughts are with all the families involved.

She arrived in Aberdeen from Teeside on the 21st at 0600 and left that same day at 1640, my AIS logs didn't state a destination but looked like she was going to the south east. never got an opertunity to photograph her.

Shipping News and information / New Acergy Boat
« on: January 26, 2007, 02:01:10 PM »
Does anyone know anything about a new boat build / conversion for Acergy thats currently taking place in Singapore. It's not the new chartered boat Proteus and it's not the new build thats currently happening in Norway. Apparently its quite a large boat and will be the flagship when it's completed.

Also as i have not got my AIS up and running yet.

The Acergy Petrel just left Aberdeen today afaik, anyone know where it's heading? I was going to get a pic to add to the collection as it's not listed in the websites ship photos but i missed it.
They are changing thier ship colours from the SCS yellow to Acergy red the Petrel is just out of dry dock, so wanted to see if it had been painted. Think the Falcon in Amsterdam will also be getting painted..
