FELICITY ACE on fire
« on: February 17, 2022, 04:32:30 AM »
I have just been made aware the FELICITY ACE is on fire.

FEBRUARY 16, 2022
The Portugese Navy has confirmed this morning that one of its patrol boats came to the aid of the Felicity Ace, a car carrier transiting the Atlantic Ocean, as reported by the Washington Post. The vessel transmitted a distress signal after fire broke out in one of the cargo decks, with the ship announced as "not under command" shortly afterwards. Thankfully, the 22 crew on board have been reported as successfully evacuated from the ship.

Seems that the crew reached tanker RESILIENT WARRIOR (now released, ETA Rotterdam 22/2) in lifeboat

and picked up from the tanker by land-based helicopter

The Portuguese warship involved and now standing by the abandoned and still-burning ship is NRP SET

Volkswagen confirmed 3,965 vehicles of the VW, Porsche, Audi and Lamborghini brands. 1100 Porsche, some special order/ not standard assembly line models, and the 189 Bentleys.

Since all the crew has been rescued, I think they should let the ship sank into the sea. The damage from the fire is enough to send it to the breakers yard. So, making it and its cargo a reef would help the sea.

@ Angelgreat.... I can't imagine there would be a favorable environmental impact assessment if this vessel were to sink in its current condition. Although there has been no noticable source of pollution from the fire (yet), lithium-ion batteries have been known to produce dangerous gases when overheated. Also, the bunker C fuels on board would likely contribute to polluting the ocean.
