Survey: Re' ships moored in the UK as hotels
« on: April 19, 2011, 09:01:19 AM »
Please can you help...Is there anywhere where I can find a definitive list of all the ships 'moored' permanently in UK docks, harbours, rivers etc., that are used as hotels, incorporating other shipboard facilities; ie restaurant, entertainment etc. If there is no definitive list, or you are not aware of one but you do know of any 'moored' ships please can you respond with any information you may have.

Kind regards, Brian; AKA The Pier Master.

Thanks Derek, The only one I can think of is the former Royal yacht Brittania in Leith, which I thought offered accommodation, but they don't, just day tours with a tea room, how disappointing...http://www.royalyachtbritannia.co.uk/

Hi Brian,

I don't know about being used for accommodation but there are many around the UK being used as restaurants especially in London. Plenty of photos on the site for the London boats.

Cheers

Bob

PS, there will be a number of cruise ships on the Thames being used for accommodation during the Olympics next year.

I believe that there are one or two accomodation vessels (former ferries) plus accomodation barges being used around the U.K. for offshore windfarm workers.

What I was looking for is something like the 'Queen Mary' in Long Beach  (http://www.queenmary.com/Stay-Aboard.aspx), or the 'Minghua' in Shenzen (http://directrooms.com/china/hotels/cruise-inn-hotel-shenzhen-10008.htm), but I dare say there is nothing as grand in the UK.

Hi Brian,

I doubt if there is anything that grand around our coast although there was a scheme to moor a luxury vessel in London Docklands a few years ago.

There was a floating hotel in the Royal Victoria dock next to the Excel centre but that has now gone.

Good luck with your search

Perhaps we need to try a different tack...

How about permanently moored vessels that are open to the public in Britain; ie
HMS Victory,
HMS Belfast,
Great Western,
Brittannia,

you can do a queery in the shipspotting database for Museum Ships. You will find any number in the UK, very few of them offer hotel accomodation though.
