Revell's Oil Tanker Glasgow

What was the color of most T 2 tanker decks? I don't want to paint my deck green like the box - it feels wrong. Were these decks made of wood or sheet metal? Any help would be appreciated.

Green weather decks would be correct for Esso at that period, for other T2's were probably either black or red oxide.

When this kit was first issued, well over 50 years ago, it was as the J. L. Hanna and I still have mine, with red ocide weather decks.
