MARGARET HILL
« on: October 31, 2009, 07:23:43 PM »
Dear all,

Does anyone know when the MAGARET HILL is due to leave Soton ? I am a fan of LNG ships and would love to catch her at Calshot before she disappears for good.

Your advice will be much appreciated !
 :-)

Hello,
We are penciled in to take the tugs up from Fawley on Tuesday to lift her off, not sure what time though?

Is Margaret Hill really a ship?
Or a boomerang?
I thought it had left Southampton last month but on today's VTS schedule, she is down to sail on Sunday.
Wouldn't it need to return to Southampton before leaving again, or have I missed something?

HI Kelvin,I guessed you had been hibernating. Margaret has not moved an inch but has been joined by Methania ( a dock length away).

Hi Chas,

Oh!
Not so much hibernating, more avoiding this awful weather.
Isn't it typical; today is glorious weather, perfect for photography, I have a day off work and not a sausage moving in the daylight hours!
Sir Percivale was down for departure today but it suddenly came off the schedule this morning, just as I was about to leave home.

I'm a temp and I have been working in Cowes (complete with nice Solent view. The temptation to look out of the window A LOT is very high!) this week. Today there was the sum total of about three ships on the move - I didn't get their names - a CMA CGM container ship going out, an OOCL container ship going in (I have just looked at the Southampton VTS site and it's OOCL Southampton, which is leaving again tomorrow) and a tanker going out. Both the OOCL Southampton and the tanker were moving as the light was going.

Re vessels seen today. If you go to www.ais-live.co.uk   or to www.solentwaters.co.uk  then main menu then ais maps and radar you can get live positions of ships in the area. there is also a historic sectin where you can get details of ships positions at hourly intervals for approx the past 3 weeks so you should be able to identify the tanker you saw plus anything else you have seen recently. the site also has a section with items of local news.
