I have heard that the rag worms will be like pythons when they start the dredging!!! All fishermen need to fit a rag worm filter some were in Tyne docks pipe outfall.

I have also heard the dock will become a container terminal , for storing containers.

Just out of interest, what happens when Tyne Dock gets to shallow for the Dredgers to get in and dump? Will they use one of them bow pumps and 'fire' it ashore...

Hi Nathan

From an earlier posting:

"After consulting Natural England, the Marine and Fisheries Agency and the Environment Agency, the port has drawn up plans to pump the spoil direct from the trench dredged for the new tunnel to Tyne Dock."

As it says, the spoils will be pumped via a 'tube' directly from the trench to Tyne Dock - under water operation.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for that, no spectacular photos of mud flying all over the place then  :-(

Any idea which vessels are doing it?

Well it finaly was announced yesterday by TPA that Tyne dock will finaly close its gates on Monday 10th August and will not re-open.
Sad end to an historic dock but hopefully when they finish extending the deep water quayside it will bring more business to the river and even more important more jobs!

I took a little trip up the Tyne yesterday and then up the River Don in Jarrow, on the way back down I videoed the journey , I also went into Tyne Dock, I  was probably one of the last peopl to enter the dock before closure.

Hi Brian

Great stuff - cannot be that many video clips of a tour of the Tyne from a Jet Ski  :-)

Shame that there wasn't a lot of shipping about - the cupboard was bare springs to mind!

When you were in Tyne Dock, the lock with the Pilot Cutters in, did you notice the name of the orange and green boat (tug?) that was stuck at the back?

Regards
