Hi All

Great news, SVITZER MALTBY is coming back onto the Port of Tyne after a 'short' absence down in Milford Haven - will be good to see the old girl back!

Thats good news Steve, now Svitzer's here have got the six Spanish newbuilds plus one Chinese the other two are still in Vigo, the two regulars here the Anglegarth + Millgarth are to be re-deployed so could end up anywhere in the UK at a port near you who knows!!!

Hi Steve,

Good to see she is coming back, Svitzer Mull left the Tees for Holland last year and has now been renamed! Looks like we might be getting Phoenix Cross back then?

All the best

And here's a bonus, Nathan; "our" local tug, Tenax, is on its way from Southampton to Teesport (just passing Dover at 17:17 local time).

Hi Nathan

Her AIS has been set for Teesport for years now - never changed.

According to the Port of Tyne Schedules she is due to leave for sea at the end of the month on an EST.

To be honest there isn't enough traffic on the Tyne/Blyth/Wear for the number of Tugs now berthed in the Tyne  :-?

Hi Guys

H302 (Barge - IMO 8766454) is due in the Tyne this Wednesday from the Tees - wonder if the Tenax is being used for the job?

Are all our regular three tugs still here as well? We hardly need four of them.

Richard.

Hi Steve,

I wondered why there wasnt a tug forecast to take her out, it will probably be Ormesby Cross bringing her up.

Tenax is here to tow out the dredger Sand Serin, ETD tomorrow morning.

All the best

Hi Ian

How did the Maltby get on in Milford Haven? She was always considered 'too powerful' for the Tyne although we do get large car carriers and Panamax bulkers here (sometimes). Strange that she's back again - seems that Svitzer may not know what to do with her.

Richard.

Hi Richard

Well yes, but the Phoenix Cross is only on 'loan' from the Tees  :-)

Here's a little bit of a test - what has recently changed on the Yarm Cross?

Hi Richard

Well she is on an EST for the end of this month going to sea - so we will have to see what happens!!

I still reckon that the Tyne has to have a Tug stationed on the river that has a fire fighting capacity, as you know neither Yarm Cross or Rowangarth have that function. That is why Phoenix Cross came up to the Tyne.

Steve

I wouldn't read too much into anything down as 'EST' on the PTA list. They might as well put 'we don't know'!

You're probably right about the fire fighting theory although I do remember the Phoenix being summoned here urgently from the Tees in 2004 to help deal with a fire on the Svitzer Quay so perhaps there wasn't local fire-fighting capability back then. I still can't see any reason for all four tugs to be here though, unless one is broken again or we're expecting something big. There's barely work for three.

I've not had a good look at the Yarm for ages. You'll have to enlighten me!

Richard.
