TUI Cruises names it's first vessel
« on: February 13, 2009, 05:55:46 PM »
TUI Cruises (a joint venture of Royal Caribbean and TUI AG) has announced the name of its first vessel, 1996-built Celebrity Galaxy.
Her new name will be "Mein Schiff" (My ship). The name was found by a competition in cooperation with a German celebrity magazine where 11,000 people sent in more than 30,000 ideas for a name.

And that' the result? Wow... :-o

If I'm not mistaken the christening will take place at Hamburg on May, 15.

Best regards,
Jens

before that, there is going to be a 50 Million Euro refurbishment. And boy is that necessary. Looking at the pictures at Meyerwerft Homepage, http://www.meyerwerft.de/page.asp?lang=d&main=1&subs=0&did=747, the old Galaxy is really decorated "American Style". And that is not quite the taste predominant in Germany these days.

Oops...At least it isn't my taste... :-D

Saw a photo of her today, the way she's supposed to look after the refurbishment. The words "Mein Schiff" und "Sonnenaufgang" painted in large letters over the bow... Not quite my taste, either!

Regards,
Jens

Sad enough that they didn't took the name that I send. :-( But "Mein Schiff"?!?  :-o  I  think they have to much overpayed management people there. Take a look at the new brochure which is online, they don't even call the ship the same on every page. Sometimes they use "Ihr Schiff" (your ship). I think the name was decided before.

I don't like the name, I hope someone does, otherwise the ship will cruise empty through the seven seas. :-(

Hello Stefan,
now I'm curious! What was the name you suggested? :-D
I would have chosen something classic, like the name of a German city (as it is designed for the German market)...

Well they were maybe not the best names for the german market but I like my suggestions. I don't like to share them because someday I'll name my own yacht like this. Sorry... Jens. :-) I just can say one name included "Northern".

Then let me know when the christening ceremony for your yacht will be held! Then I'll know... :-)
Well, names starting with "Northern" or "Southern" etc. to my ears often sound quite good. (I admit my suggestion isn't necessarily much more imaginative than "Mein Schiff"... :-D )

They didn't do too bad a job, but the name is still silly. What will the next one be called, "Dein Schiff"?  :-)

Brgds.
