Evergreen sells four sisters
« on: January 07, 2008, 06:36:06 PM »
It is reported that Evergreen of Taipei has sold four sisters to Costamare, latter one being the new owner of three Maersk boxcarriers as reported here on 04.Jan.

The Ladies are:

Ever Garden - IMO 8200125 (renamed "Garden")
Ever Gather - IMO 8200113 (tbr)
Ever Gentle - IMO 8217867 (tbr)
LT Going    - IMO 8208244 (ex Ever Going; tbr)
dead slow ahead !  :-)
best regards, Klaus

Klaus,

According to ABS Ever Gentle was renamed Gentle for four days in mid December before reverting to Ever Gentle.

My suspicion is that this was a paperwork transfer & data entry process that got caught up with a weekend in between and therefore in the age of computers appears as a renaming in their database!

Costamare has a five year deal with Evergreen to charter back the vessels so it will be interesting to see how long they retain their Ever names or whether they drop the Ever (or LT in the case of LT Going) as Costamare's book names are simply just the 'G' names (Garden, Gentle, Gather & Going).

I can't speak for the other 3, but 8200125 was in the area here (Tacoma, WA/Vancouver, BC) between Dec 29 and Jan 3, and was broadcasting the name "Garden" on their AIS.

Yes according to ABS she was actually renamed back in 2006. But I can't find any corroborative evidence to this - I am wondering whether it's just a typo (should be 2007?) on the ABS site?

Hi

Under the name Ever Garden she arrived Qingado 8.3.07 according to my Lloyds Index which further make the ABS report of renaming in 2006 highly unlikely.

Evergreen have sold a number of their "G" vessels to Technomar in two deals, the first in 2002, who gave ships new names then time-chartered them back to Evergreen for a 5 years. Some have already appeared on s/s under new names:

Athos I ex Ever Guard - the first in class built 1983

Dimitris Y II ex Ever Guide

Agios Dimitrios I ex Ever Glowing

Faith I ex Ever Gallant

Others were Ever Giant r/n Aramais, Ever grade r/n Porthos and Ever Fleeful r/n Panagia Tinou.

Evergreen have a large group of 28 similar "G" named vessels of either 2728 TEU or 3400 TEU.

The design started as a 1954 TEU capacity vessel known as "G" type. Only one vessel was delivered with the original specification, the Ever Guard in June 1983, as Evergreen had decided to increase the size to 2245 TEU which was applied to the second and third vessels. These were delivered as Ever Guide and Ever Going but as they were delivered during July and September the same year, the design was being modified with the addition of an extra hatch, so the fourth vessel Ever Glory was delivered in February 1984 with a capacity for 2728 TEU. By June 1984 the original three vessels had been lengthened to carry 2728 TEU also and 16 sister vessels then followed.

Four further vessels were ordered to take the class to 24 vessels, but a further design modification with a 40' hatch added saw these four delivered as the "GL" type of 2940 TEU. These were Ever General, Ever Glamour, Ever Gaining and Ever Garland delivered in 1987-8. But another design change saw all four ships moved from the Onomichi shipbuiler in Japan to China Shipbuilding in Kaohsiung to be lengthened to carry 3428 TEU and become the "GX" type. The company also lengthened 8 older Japanese built "GL" vessels to "GX" dimensions in 1987/8.

Four new vessels were also ordered of the design and delivered in 1988 as Ever Gallant, Ever Gleeful, Ever Glowing - which in 2002 turned out to be the first of the sale and charter back's, a little unusual with these being the newest of the group and the only unmodified vessels.

Hope may be of interest.

Cheers

Brent
