Yahoo News (
www.yahoo.com) is reporting another in what is a seemingly endless series of ferry diasters: In the African nation of Ghana a boat carrying approx 150 people hit a stump while travelling across Lake Volta, an 8,500 square kilometer reservoir. The boat reportedly hit a stump. Thirty persons have been rescued; the remaining 120 are feared dead. The passengers were being moved after settling illegally in a forest reserve and had been forced into the boat with their property and livestock -- the boat reportedly had a capacity of 70 people.
The boat was travelling from Dudzome to Abotoase on Lake Volta, which is three times the size of Luxembourg.
