Shipping preparing for the storm?
« on: October 27, 2013, 08:41:16 PM »
With a big storm forecast for the southern UK and southern North Sea from the early hours of Monday, its interesting to see on AIS just how many ships have steamed off in the middle of the North Sea and are simply holding position. Vessels which have been into Felixstowe recently, like Maersk Bentonville and Cosco Excellence, are steaming at around 3 or 4 knots to wait for the bad weather to pass - better than losing ground tackle or risking a grounding  . .

Not something you often see.

And it looks as if the Svitzer Felixstowe fleet have sought refuge up at Harwich International.
