Shipping News and information / Tug NOVE
« on: July 02, 2019, 04:21:24 PM »
Does anyone know what the Cypriot tug NOVE, IMO: 8218233 is towing?  According to Marine Traffic her voyage began in Sydney, Nova Scotia 5th May and her destination is the scrapyard in Alang.  For three days she hove to 320nm East of St. Helena Island in the South Atlantic and then proceeded to Walvis Bay where it is believed that she has bunkered and has for the past two days been transiting to and fro at + - 4kts outside of the port entrance with her vessel in tow. A vague and distant photo from shore shows that it is either a passenger vessel or a ferry.  The NOVE is awaiting better weather to transit the Cape of Good Hope.  Can anyone shed a light on the dead ship, such as a current name/previous name(s, an IMO number/MMSI Number etc please?

Thanks

Shipping News and information / M/Y TITANIC
« on: January 12, 2017, 01:44:12 PM »
Does anyone know the whereabouts of the 78m long M/Y TITANIC IMO: 7338561 which I photographed at St. Helena Island in mid August 2009.  She was on a delivery voyage to Grenada to undergo a conversion into a luxury motor yacht but can find no details of her now.  Does anyone know if the conversion was successful?
Of course without her delivery crew, which in actual fact some were the original crew on the Cape Town to Tristan da Cunha run she nearly sunk while in the inexperienced hands of a skeleton crew in the Carribean later that year.
if anyone has more information on her I'd like to hear from them please.

Shipping News and information / ARAGONITE
« on: December 10, 2011, 09:37:11 PM »
Does anyone have any information/pictures of the ICI cargo ship "ARAGONITE".  In 1982 she was chartered to fill in for the Royal Mail Ship "ST. HELENA" voyaging between Cape Town, St. Helena Island and Ascension Island.  I sailed to Cape Town on her mid 1982, one of the other 11 passengers was a surgeon Douglas Quantrill who served in the Island's hosital, turned out to be a survivor of the torpedoed "CITY OF CAIRO"  www.sscityofcairo.co.uk
The voyage took a week, two days longer than normal due to engine problems and we ran out of food as well, well food was severely rationed so that we all had something to eat.

The Maltese registered OLIVA 9HA2075  IMO 9413705 ran aground off Spinners Point, Nightengale Island off the world's remotest inhabited Island (on the belt of the roaring Forties), Tristan Da Cunha March 16th 2011 while bound from Santos to Singapore with Soya Beans.
The salvage tug SMIT AMANDALA will depart Cape Town today for the casuality.  The supply ship EDINBURUGH is standing by the OLIVA to evacuate the 22 crew as the weather deteriorates.

See photo of the OLIVA taken on the 12th March 2011 in the port of Santos by Rafael.

On Tuesday 5th October 2010 the off shore stern trawler LAVERNE CTA-793D sunk while alongside at the V&A Waterfront.  Owned by Viking Fishing Group , Cape Town and built in 1981, she is the EX Kolbeinsey BA 123.
She sailed from IJmuiden (Netherlands) 25-08-2009 and entered into a 14 million Rand refit in Cape Town.  One year later she is lying on a port side with the starboard side just kissing the surface.
There seems to be little pollution from the wreck but that is most likely largely inpart of quick intervention by SAMSA.

Thanks also to Photographer MARCEL & Capt Hilmar Snorrason for posting these terrific photos of this trawler along with dates and a bit of information of events.

Thanks to Glenn Kasner - Cape Town

Does anyone have photos of the Spanish Longline Trawler SUFFOLK CHALLENGER?  She was registered in Lowestaff, UK and I think her callsign was GMYH.
