Hi Bob

Seen the quote in the link

Quote
5.  Explore HMS Exeter
This year, visitors can step foot onboard and explore HMS Exeter, the very first Royal Navy Destroyer to be present at the Show. The current HMS Exeter has a distinguished history, having served in the Falklands War (1982) and the first Gulf War (1991). The Type 42 vessel will be moored outside on the Show's marina in the Royal Victoria Dock and is truly an experience not to be missed!

Would be extremely clever, but she was towed away from Portsmouth Friday 23rd Sept 2011 to Izmir in Turkey to be scrapped http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/local/east-hampshire/mod_sells_three_more_warships_to_be_broken_up_for_scrap_metal_1_3085742 must be a major misprint.

Help and Advice / Military Photo Sub Catorgries
« on: October 09, 2011, 02:03:06 PM »
Was just wondering if its possible to add more sub catorgries to the military section of the photo libary. Survey section and Training ships section would be appreciated as many navies do have ships dedicated to them. If theres any other sections people could think of, then i'm sure it'll be helpful to people searching for certain craft.

Just a thought

What a intresting discussion, some excellent points made by all. One other point i'd like to make is that some countries change due to where they are. For example the Swedish Navy when in Swedish Waters refer to themselves as HMS Hans/Hennes Majest

Hi Rob, i went down to Falmouth on the 28th Oct to get a glimpse of her. I put a pic of her up. As far as i'm aware she is actually still ablaze. Shes still transmitting and is approx 2 miles east of Portscatho, which is just up the coast from Falmouth.

Hi all, i went down to Falmouth on the 28th Oct, there wasn't much activity happening around her. She's still transmitting from there at present. So god knows if / when she will depart.

Hopefully she will find a new home soon

Help and Advice / Re: Photo's at Plymouth Docks
« on: February 19, 2010, 11:48:57 AM »
Hi, there a few places. From the main barbican area, there are dedicated boats, that do dockyard and warships trips, which take you up and down the Dockyard. Note these are seasonal and do not operate in winter.

If your driving there's the main ferry between Plymouth and Torpoint, which is the opposite side of the Tamar River. The ferry is situated between North & South Yards of the dockyard. Across the other side of the river at Torpoint there are some good viewing points, but a 250mm + lens is recommended.

http://shipping.fotopic.net is my shipping fotopic, as i live in Plymouth to give you general idea of pictures you can get.

Thats a couple of examples of picture taken on the ferry crossing.

Otherwise you can get fantastic pictures from the main Hoe area of Plymouth overlooking Plymouth Sound.

Is usually pretty much spot on with the movements of naval ships. For ships coming in and out in the sound, the best spot for photo's and viewing is a place called Devil's Point.

A bus service does run down to there, but i would recommend use of a car as its a bit of a walk from the bus-stop.

Hope this helps
