The final arrival of Mega Monday was the Maersk Herrera on a maiden voyage. I was expecting much of this arrival as she only had a maximum draught of just 9.2 metres aft and 7.9 metres forward.

The H Class family consists of 9 vessels, Maersk Herrera is the 8th to be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries, South Korea. The pilot required two Svitzer tugs for berthing, planned port side to Felixstowe berth 9. First to meet outside the harbour at 7&8 Buoys to make fast centre lead aft and the second inside the harbour to push on the starboard shoulder for Port swing off the berth to go alongside Berth 9.  Svitzer Shotley makes fast centre lead aft while the Svitzer Sky pushes up on the starboard shoulder  The Maersk Herrera left the Port of Felixstowe within 24 hours of arrival to anchor at the Sunk Deep Water Anchorage. Her next port is Antwerp but not until 12th October then she will come back to Felixstowe on the 15th October hopefully with a deeper draught.

Ship number 5 of 6 on Mega Monday

The Taurus on a 10 year charter to Evergreen from the Greek leasing company Costamare was the next to arrive to the port from her last port of Rotterdam with a maximum draught of 14.01 metres planned portside to Felixstowe berth 8. The pilot required two Svitzer tugs for berthing, first tug to meet at 7&8 buoys and make fast centre lead aft to assist with the Beach End, second tug to meet inside the harbour and make fast on the starboard shoulder for a port swing off the berth. As the mooring gang were up on Trinity 7 making fast the Ebba Maersk, the pilot only had a Berthing Master to help guide with the final position alongside until the rest of the gang had completed tying up Ebba Maersk.

Ebba Maersk was a priority arrival so she was the first to arrive. The pilot had transfered from the Thalassa Mana on to a pilot launch then on to the Ebba Maersk. Two Svitzer tugs were requested for her arrival. First to meet at 7&8 Buoys and the second inside the harbour.  Svitzer Kent was the first tug to make fast aft on the starboard of the centre lead. Svitzer Shotley was the second tug. The skipper of the Shotley went outside the harbour to escort her on the starboard quarter then move around to port side near the accommedation block for a push around to port of the Shotley Spit then make fast centre lead forward to back up towards Trinity 7 and on to the berth.

Ship 3 of 6 on Mega Monday

After assisting with the Thalassa Mana, Svitzer Deben goes back to the tug pontoon until they were required with the Evelyn Maersk on Berth 9. Svitzer Deben makes fast port of centre aft while Svitzer Shotley makes fast centre lead forward. As the Evelyn was starboard side to the berth, the tugs had to pull her clear of the berth before swinging her to starboard. Once swung, Shotley is released and heads back to the pontoon while Kent is held until they were safely around the 90

Works to replenish the beach at Landguard Viewpoint is about to start for 2 weeks.

Derek Sands, I'm sure lessons have been learnt and the cranes on Berth 8 will be moved far away from the Zhen Hua.

12
The Zhen Hua 23 is off Gran Canaria heading for Felixstowe. Her ETA is Tuesday 20th March during daylight hours. As her arrival is for Berths 8&9. We are unsure which berth she will go alongside and discharge the 2 new cranes but it seems logical to have them on Berth 8 where the 3 that arrived a couple of years ago on the Zhen Hua 25.

The Second Generation Triple E, Marseille Maersk departs a foggy Felixstowe on her maiden voyage to Europe with a maximum draught of 11.7 metres bound for Antwerp. https://youtu.be/1IILvc32AL0

14
The crane vessel Zhen Hua 23 left Shanghai's ZMPC yard with 2 brand new gantry cranes to go on Felixstowe's Berths 8&9. Her scheduled ETA is for the 5th March but subject to change.
