It will be interesting to see what sort of environmental opposition there is to this. For the future of the port its very important that this goes ahead - I've got a feeling it won't happen for some time though.

Shipping News and information / New Container Berth & Feeder Service for Southampton

There is more good news for those interested in Southampton.

Berth 203, which currently handles vehicles, has just taken delivery of a 100 tonne mobile harbour crane and will commence operation as a feeder berth for SCT from October. SCT are looking to attract more feeder services and with the impending arrival in September of 6 new Grand Alliance services, berthing space will be at a premium. Therefore the new berth will ensure that feeders are not competing with deep-sea vessels for berthing space.

Xpress containers lines are switching one service from Thamesport to Southampton, with effect from September 1st. There is a possibilty of more to follow.
