Does anybody else think the New Marine traffic look is a step backwards? I think personally i preferred the older look with the sea light blue and the icons as they were....

Shipping News and information / Noor 1 (IMO 7104441)
« on: December 16, 2021, 07:43:34 PM »
In light of the recent mini cull of Red Sea pilgrim ferries, does anyone have any info on the fate of the 1971 built Noor 1?.

She remarkably is 50 years old, but was last on the ship tracking sites in early October, since then nothing. If she's still at anchor off Port Sudan (her last known position) are the bells finally toiling for this old lady.

Hi all,

Shipspotting is i think you would all agree THE premier place to view ship photos of all ships going back to the early days of steam to the present day. That said there must be a tremendous amount of ships that are yet to still be added to the database, even relatively young ships of less than 5 years old.

This leads me onto this question: Would there be a way for the site to flag up missing ships by obviously their IMO number, listing them for us spotters to try and strike them off? I know it's most likely impossible but it would be interesting to know the percentage of a random block of ships built in say 1974 or 2005 for example that are covered on the site? How many blanks (no photos to view) must there be out there?

I'd guess tens of thousands....

Shipping News and information / NorthLink lose ferry contract
« on: May 04, 2012, 04:28:48 PM »
After 10 years serving Orkney & Shetland, NorthLink ferries this afternoon lost it's contract to run the  ferry service to Serco group.

After July 6th Serco assume the services with all bookings if made before then honoured.

The current vessels Hjaltland, Hrossey, Hamnavoe, Helliar, & Hildasay will be operated by the new operator, who are promising a modernizing of the service at all levels from booking to disembarkation.

Bit of a surprise Serco winning this so we'll see what happens in the months ahead.

Cheers

Shipping News and information / imo number after 99 reached
« on: February 13, 2012, 06:46:35 PM »
Hi all,

This may be a daft question but i was wondering what happens to the imo number sequence once they get to 99?  ???

Does it change to 00 or does it change to an 8 digit number as opposed to a 7 currently?

Cheers
Richard  :)

Shipping News and information / Millionth photo milestone
« on: September 04, 2010, 08:51:48 PM »
Hi All,

Noting that there has been some "heavy" threads kicking about the forum in recent months i thought it was time for a slightly lighter hearted one for a change.

I see that we are fast steaming up on the one millionth photo (less than 20,000 to go and counting).

So folks i was thinking how should we mark this milestone? Perhaps there could be a gift or maybe a certificate or even something else for the lucky uploader...i throw this thread open for any suggestions out there...

Maybe we could get Derek to present the award at some swanky 5* hotel, black tie bash in some exotic land.... :-D  Oh well we can but dream!

Cheers
Richard

Shipping News and information / NorthLink secure "new " freight vessel
« on: December 14, 2009, 08:11:35 PM »
Hi All,

NorthLink's search for a replacement for the 38 year old Hascosay is at an end. It has been revealed that the company will time charter the ro-ro cargo ship Shield (IMO 9119246) starting in the new year.

The future of the much travelled Hascosay is unknown, however her age may result in the scrapyard being her final voyage.

The crew of the Hascosay will be moved to the rest of the companies vessels, Hamnavoe, Hrossey and Hjaltland.

Furthermore islanders are getting the chance to rename the vessel with a suitable name that ties in with the current fleet - the prize four free trips on a NorthLink route, and pride of place at the renaming ceremony.

NorthLink's other charter freight ship Clare remains on the route for the time being, however a replacement for her is also  being sought in the next year or so.

Regards
Richard
