NorthLink lose ferry contract
« on: May 04, 2012, 04:28:48 PM »
After 10 years serving Orkney & Shetland, NorthLink ferries this afternoon lost it's contract to run the  ferry service to Serco group.

After July 6th Serco assume the services with all bookings if made before then honoured.

The current vessels Hjaltland, Hrossey, Hamnavoe, Helliar, & Hildasay will be operated by the new operator, who are promising a modernizing of the service at all levels from booking to disembarkation.

Bit of a surprise Serco winning this so we'll see what happens in the months ahead.

Cheers
Richard

Corporate name of 'Northlink' on the vessels but operated by Caledonian MacBrayne at the moment. Secro due to assume control in the summer 2012.
