Really a nice collection of extraordinary names so far.

"Woolloomooloo" is one of my favourites, as well as "Catch 22": http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1840148
and also "London 2012": http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/search.php?query=LONDON+2012&x=22&y=14

On the other hand, I also like lyrical names like "Lowlands Sunrise" : http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2339879

Shipping News and information / "SANDNES" going off track.
« on: February 28, 2016, 06:17:41 PM »
The self-discharging bulk-carrier "Sandnes" (Imo: 9306029) ran aground on the river Elbe at the outskirts of Hamburg port today in morning. The ship had just departed from the Pella Sietas yard with a draught of only 3,6m (marinetraffic) when it struck the riverbed while maneuvering in a narrow deep-water channel, which connects the Sietas-yard with the fairway of the river Elbe. At the moment, with rising tide, several small tugs attempt to free the vessel.

A short sum-up of a German newspaper article you can find right here:http://www.spiegel.de/panorama/hafen-hamburg-schon-wieder-ein-frachter-auf-grund-gelaufen-a-1079720.html

Here we are, eventually we've met face to face: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2379066

According to Blohm & Voss's own website, "Nataly" is due to stay in the dry-dock until Saturday, 19 December. Maintenance works comprise: cleaning and concervation of the external hull, exchange of the shaft seals & overhaul of the valves.

Have a look here for verification:) http://www.blohmvoss.com/de/corporate/content/schiffe-kultur/ships-work

Best regards, David

No chance today Jens. She is still floating somewhere off Helgoland on stormy North Sea, arrival delayed. But now on Hamburg port website listed with destination Blohm & Voss shipyard.
I hope to catch her in the course of the next week. Maybe you'll be faster then:-))

Great shots from the flying visit at Rotterdam Pieter. "Nataly" now re-appears at Marinetraffic map, having left Rotterdam area and now heading for Hamburg port where she is due to arrive tomorrow at 12pm.

After leaving the Maasvlakte today in the early morning, "Nataly" again displays Hamburg as her next destination. However, it seems that at the moment she's still at anchor off Rotterdam port, therefore I won't bet my money on it.

Thanks for your informative comments, Pieter & Ralph.

Shipping News and information / Russian FSO / Crude oil tanker to Hamburg
« on: December 01, 2015, 12:16:33 PM »
Russian FSO "Nataly" (8915794) is due to call at Hamburg port tomorrow morning as reported by Marinetraffic. See: http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:351090/mmsi:273535310/imo:8915794/vessel:NATALY

Her last port of call was Murmansk, where she apparently spent some time laid-up or as a FSO-unit respectively.

I wonder, if she is bound to undergo a complete overhaul at Blohm&Voss shipyard as it was the case with two other FPSO units in recent times. However, yet no sources to approve this.

Maybe someone is able to shed light on this event.

Thanks in advance & Kind regards,
David

Hey,

I like "Ships monthly", have read some editions & can recommend it. Unfortunately it's quite difficult to get this magazine here in Germany.

Help and Advice / Re: How do you find out the cargo of a ship?

Hi,
Phil is right in what he said about the tight limits regarding the information, which are around about a particular ship's cargo.
From time to time, however, you are able to find a port website providing a lot of information about the vessels which call to this port, including the cargoes imported/exported.

Check this for Dunkerque port: http://www.dunkerque-port.fr/fr/activites-commerciales/navires-presents-port-dunkerque.html

Rostock port: http://www.rostock-port.de/en/shipping/ships-in-the-port.html

Lulea port: http://www.portlulea.com/60/trafik.html

Nantes/St. Nazaire port: http://www.nantes.port.fr/le-port-en-direct/mouvements-des-navires-en-temps-reel/navires-a-quai/

Aviles port: http://www.puertoaviles.es/en/servicioscomerciales/buquesenelpuerto.asp

Bunbury port (my fav.) :    http://www.byport.com.au/     (Just click on "Shipping arrivals")

There are of course some more around, sadly not for Hamburg port.

I hope this may help.

Cheers, David

Hi Pieter,
yes, you're right. "Competition" is probably the wrong expression in this context. I like the word "co-existence". The only competition however takes place in discussions like this one, where different opinions bang together:)
Nevertheless, I encourage you Ventuari not to post shots from the Vancouver archives yourself. As for me, there are enough B&W photos already around and I do prefer your colourful shots taken from the Canarian rocks and the Spanish coatsline.

13
Hi Peter and other fellow shipspotter.
I think Ventuari has a point and with respect to what has been contributed to this discussion by others such as Jadran or Capt. Ted I won't come to the conclusion that everyone regards the uploads from the Vancouver archives as a site-highlights. Nor seems it to be, like you say a "very small minority" that prefers photographs shared which were actually taken from the very member who posts them. So do I. And there are actually some spotters around here, who support the pool of historic shots on this site with photos taken by themselves decades ago. Therefore I won't neccessarily ascribe someone a lack of historical awareness, it is rather, like Simonwp said before, a competition of many different attitudes towards the character of this site.

The 2015 built ULCS "YM Wish" suffered an engine blackout on the river Elbe near Gl

I like the idea to guide members via video and share tips from spotters experiences with different photo editing programs.
I use Lightroom 3.6 64 bits with, as I think, good results, but only the basic settings and adjustments and the sharpening-effect.
I took me some time to get used to the program since it differs quite a lot from the older adobe photoshop I worked with before. However, in my opinion the results I achieved with Lightroom beat the ones I managed to get with photoshop (7.0).
