On 31th of december arrived in the harbour of Zeebrugge in Belgium the CMA CGM Otello (imo: 9299628). She is the biggest containership that ever visited that harbour. She can have 8500 containers on board and from may she will be sailing on a weekly schedlule from northern Europe to Asia.

The CMA CGM Otello has a length of 334 meters and the beam is 42,8 meters. The draft is 14,5 meters, It was a challenge for the port authoroties. Because of the dept she has te be out of the harbour at the highest moment of the tide.

Informatie collected from the newspaper "het Nieuwsblad" in Belgium with thanks to Frederik & Gerda Plets-V. D. Linden for collecting the information.

Hello,

She is so big that they have already lost a crewman !
Drunken in a corner behind a container, or lost at sea ?
Will we know ?

Let see what the future will bring as info ?

Have a nice day.

Hi All,

You can find a lot of shipdata of the CMA CGM Otello at follow link:
http://www.cma-cgm.com/products_services/vesselcard.asp
and next, click on the name of this ship.

The new containervessels that CMA CGM have ordered to build yet are taller and have a carrying capacity of more than 9400 Teus.

Sadly, there was a crewman lost overboard in the English Channel, approx 40 Km from the Isle of Wight on the evening of January 1st.
French and British coastguards gave up the search for him on January 2nd after searching for many hours.
The BBC story is here:

The CMA CGM Otello is the first "jumboised" ship to join CMA-CGM's FAL (French Asia Line) service. The current FAL vessels (CMA CGM Ravel, Baudelaire, Bizet, Balzac, Debussy) will be moved to CMA's North China Express (NCX) service).
