French aircraft carrier Clemenceau
« on: December 30, 2005, 02:34:26 PM »
French court has allowed sailing of Clemenceau to Alang for demolition against claim filed by several organizations such as Green Peace, Ban Abestos, etc... stating that she had not been enough banestos cleared or cleaned and that Indian breakers were not prepared nor trained to perform such a job.

She should now sail soon to India.

Greenpeace boards ship 'carrying toxic waste to India'
12/01/2006 - 20:42:52

Two Greenpeace activists boarded a decommissioned French warship today to protest at its departure for India for dismantling, saying it carried hundreds of tons of toxic waste.

The activists chased down the carrier Clemenceau in the southern Mediterranean, near the entrance to the Suez Canal, and climbed the ship
End of shift.
Stay safe.

As per a today India's supreme court statement, Clemenceau is not allowed to enter India waters until 13 Feb, date the Supreme court will decide whether or not there is a violation of international agreements regarding vessel decontamination.

What would be the transit time to the Indian/Interantional waters boundry from there and could Greenpeace get the Esperanza from Cape Town to there to upset things?

Unless Greenpeace already have a vessel in the area?  Trialing the Carrier perhaps?

Don't think there is any need for Greenpeace to send any of their vessels there. Together with all the other parties' representatives, they will be listened by Indian supreme court  that will then decide to authorize or not Clemenceau to be broken up in India.

Clemenceau recalled to France

FRENCH president Jacques Chirac has today ordered the return to French waters of the former aircraft carrier Clemenceau, which was due to be demolished in India. The vessel, which is already in the Indian Ocean and was about to enter Indian waters, will be towed back to France "until a solution can be found to remove the asbestos still contained on board in the respect of health, the environment and labour rules". Environmentalists have welcomed Chirac

Indeed, a German shipping gazette confirms that the French Government gave order to bring back the CLEMENCEAU. Lucky Suez-Canal Authority: once again they will charge transit-costs amounting to nearly 1,5 Mio US-Dollar....
