Clemenceau recalled to France
FRENCH president Jacques Chirac has today ordered the return to French waters of the former aircraft carrier Clemenceau, which was due to be demolished in India. The vessel, which is already in the Indian Ocean and was about to enter Indian waters, will be towed back to France "until a solution can be found to remove the asbestos still contained on board in the respect of health, the environment and labour rules". Environmentalists have welcomed Chirac
