MV Green Bay Transport
« on: March 04, 2011, 01:50:13 AM »
Does anyone know what happened to the old Green Bay Transport? She used to be on the Burnside/St. Brendan's run before retirement. I assume she was scrapped.

Here are links to the retirement message and a pic from an Aliant website.

Any info/history would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Ryan

According to these articles I've found, the Hamilton Sound will be replaced soon too!

I think The Green Bay Transport was a fibreglass-over-wood ferry. As far as I know she was the only one of that type in the Newfoundland and Labrador fleet.

The Green Bay Transport was for sale for the longest time through TriNav, haven't seen it listed for at least a year or more, she's either sold or scrapped  or just rotting away.

Thanks Barry. I was just curious as to what became of her. I'd even like to know the history of her. Where was she built and how long was she in Newfoundland?

Thanks Mac.

Do you know what became of her? Is she still operating for Clarenville?

Sorry I have no idea. All I can rell you is she is still registered. The fact that she is owned by the shipyard tells me that she is probably not in service, and may even have been taken over by them in lieu of payment for repairs or berthing fees. That is pure speculation of course, but shipyards aren't usually very enthusiastic about operating ships!

Sounds plausible... I'm pretty sure Clarenville did a lot of work on her in latter years.

Thanks!
