Bulkcarrier SELI 1 ran aground
« on: September 08, 2009, 11:30:13 AM »
on Sep 7 the Panama-flagged bulk carrier "Seli 1" 19031 gt (IMO-No.: 7814149) has run aground at Bloumbergstrand in South Africa. Salvage workers established a small leak developed in the hull causing the machine room to flood. The vessel hit foul weather and was driven onto a sandbank just off Bloubergstrand in Table Bay. Rescue crews braved the elements in and all 25 Turkish crewmen were airlifted to safety. With 600 tons of oil, 60 tons of steel and several hundreds more of coal on board, salvors cannot afford to waste any time.
