Indeed nice idea, first time for me to spot ships from the 'landside'  :-D

And more chances to spot MSC vessels instead of the blue ones, as I am dealing daily with those blue ones.

First of all.
I send message to Derek with the question if this will be official/unofficial.
first I wait his answer before we can start planning.

@ Remy. Don't know yet.
Will ask the skipper but normally they start in Terneuzen.

Everybody who likes to join

I would like really much to attend only one problem I'm in Sydney Australia !!!   I have family in Antwerp and was there in '93 when Antwerp was the cultural city on Europe and they had a tall ship parade and race. I had a great time and now all I need to do is save money. Hmmm might be harder than I thought but will give it a try anyway.    Mick

Why not just fix a date when we could all try to meet up at Terneuzen. Keep it unofficial (it tends to get expensive when it gets official). Everyone can make their own arrangements for accommodation, to suit their own budget. Mine would be in the back of my van!
Forget the sponsors and all that stuff. Let's just all get together for a chin-wag between like-minded people (fellow ship-nuts).
Then, if we want, we can all go back to Terneuzen on our own at another date to get photos different from everyone else's - he-he!

Good point Bob,
lets just make a meeting for shiplovers to meet, enjoy the ships and the beer in the evening.
If it is inofficial with no expensive programme it will attract more people. Lets have a look on this year official meeting, which failed, but 2 unofficial ones which seemed to be a success, although I could not attend.
And let it fix us soon, that it will not conflict with other events.

Hi friends,
I think the date was clear 10.7.2010-13.7.2010 when there is the Tall Shiprace in Antwerp and I think from Stevo that is a good date.
best regards
Peter
I'm far away from the sea to Hamburg I have a longer distance as to Venice or Genova. My favorite is the Suez Canal, Panama Canal and since 2006 also Chinese harbours.

Hey Bob,

unofficial is oke by me because I still didn't receive an answer from the admins on this community. I'm also a member on Digital-Seas.com so I also like to invite people there.

Like Peter said there is the tallshiprace in july. As agreed on our last unofficial we had in Rotterdam/Antwerp we would like to have an unofficial this year in Hamburg, but this tallship is maybe a special weekend. That's the reason I have this topic.

For your information, I also in contact with some Antwerp hotels to give us a good Summit-price for the weekend for all members who like to join this weekend.

Will update soon, hope to have a planning in december so we can start with a list of people who likes to join.

Why is this topic not sticky anymore.
Nobody interested to come together?

I'm still working on a planning. Have contacts with hotel and looking for a boat so we can sail to see to catch some sailingvessels sailing.

There's a lot more in Antwerp than sailing ships, Cornelia, it's one of Europe's biggest and busiest ports although I admit that sailing vessels aren't really my thing.
I'm fairly interested in this although that depends on what else I am doing next year.

Hi Cornelia,
Antwerp is not only intersting only for sailing ships.
I was at Walsoorden in 2006, when all the sailings vessels went out. It was a great day and I did not see only sailing vessels. The usual traffic (tankers, containervessels, cargo ships, reefers and even a bulker with masts passed that afternoon).
So in my opinion this event will not be only for sailing vessel lovers but for all shiplovers. I still would like to come.
Steve I suggest you make a new thread, where everyone definitively has to say, if he is coming or not.
Gerolf
