US Airways A320 ditched in the Hudson River
« on: January 16, 2009, 03:19:20 AM »
Some of you might have seen the news that a US Airways Airbus A320 aircraft ditched in the Hudson River after experiencing dual engine failure due to bridstrike. From the live coverage of the accident you could see a tug pushing the half submerged aircraft to shallow water, as it was slowly sinking. Several passenger vessels came to rescue the passengers and crew that were standing on the wing. Some got wet feets, but luckily no one was injured seriously in the accident.

Very nice job performed by the pilots and the boats rescueing the passengers!

A good job that there were no liners berthed/arriving/leaving at the piers as they would have been in years gone by.
regards Glencairn :-) :pint:

Truely amazing from all aspects.   High praise as well to the NY Waterway Ferry officers and crew who were first on the scene and rescued many people.  Captain of one of the Ferry Boats was 20 year old  Brittany Catanzaro of Fairview NJ. Kept her cool in a very difficult situation.
