An explosion onboard a Pertamina-chartered tanker in Indonesia on Wednesday has left four crew members dead.
The blast happened after the 1,439-gt Maulana (built 1993) had unloaded its cargo of diesel fuel at a facility on the Siak River, Sumatra, close to the busy shipping lanes of the Malacca Strait.
There were 16 people onboard the Indonesia-flagged vessel at the time of the blast with the captain and 11 other crew members now being questioned by authorities.
It took firefighters two hours to control the blaze which is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault onboard.
The ship, which was in ballast at the time, had been carrying 1,600 kilolitres of diesel from an Indonesian processing unit for state-owned giant Pertamina.
