I'm far away from the sea to Hamburg I have a longer distance as to Venice or Genova. My favorite is the Suez Canal, Panama Canal and since 2006 also Chinese harbours.

This accident amazes me. Here in Auckland New Zealand we have a harbour bridge. Any ship wishing to go under the bridge to the upper harbour wharves must have a pilot, and tugs attached bow and stern. You would think they would do the same thing in a country as advanced as the USA.

How come there was no tugboat escort? We always had tugboats escorting us and we were smaller ship.

The tugs assisted during the departure. The ship was well underway when the blackout occurred.

But, in my opinion of course, the tugs should assist till overtaking the bridge, some 2.4 miles

As I said, in Auckland ships are not allowed to proceed under the bridge unless they have a two tug escort, to stop an incident like this from happening.

Does anyone know the name of the mega-barge that's being organised (capable of lifting 1000 tons) as said by the USMC of Engineers guy on news ?

MattB,

It has been reported that the heavy-lift crane barge en route to the site is Donjon Marine's CHESAPEAKE 1000:

The 500-ton capacity derrick barge WEEKS 533 has also been reported en route, as well:

Let no one get mad. but they said this:

Maritime Research and History

Here you can bring up subjects that are not suitable to be dealt with when posting regular photos. Topics like histories of individual ships, shipping companies, shipbuilding companies but also port histories can be discussed here. You are allowed to attach photographs or documents that may not meet site standards and also links to other information is welcome if they contribute to the topic-

I publish there because it is a place where you can publish everything without COPYRIGHT.

But now I see this and then?

I post the DALI boat here with my info?
