Future IMO Numbers

It is interesting to see that the IMO numbers have 'clocked over' from the last IMO number of 9999993 to numbers starting with 101.  This series was previously reserved for yachts and now all ships are using the same system.

Ha, thanks for bringing that to our attention, it was bound to happen, but the first deliveries will be probably not this year, but the orderbooks will surely adopted the new system. Do we actually have a category that starts with 2? (or 3?).

From a quick bit of research on Equasis, it appears that IMO numbers up to 1013157 are all yachts and the first non yacht is 1013169 which is a containership from Zhoushan Changhong, yard number 2031, for delivery to MSC in 2025.

The last ship to be constructed with the old IMO system and bearing number 9999993 is an LNG tanker from Hyundai Samho, yard number 8207, for delivery in 2027.

Thank you Yvon for your annotation regarding the number IMO. When I saw it, I didn't notice it. Just a small correction as to the name of the containership, She was XIN ZHOU SHAN, and she was grounded on 19/05/2023.
