Tilbury shoot locations
« on: August 13, 2013, 09:29:14 AM »
I need to shoot some video of Tilbury, and would be grateful if anyone who has photographed in the area could advise me on good locations, on either side of the River.

Help and advice much appreciated!

Chris,

Tilbury Landing stage will give you the best and cosest views of river traffic from the Essex side, but the sun will be in front of you for part of the day. The Landing Stage is from where the Tilbury-Gravesend ferry operates so will be closed when the service is not running, e.g. Sundays. The best views of Tilbury itself are from the Gravesend side. There are several locations there you could go but my Kent-based friends will be best at explaining those to you.

Thanks, Phil, I'll give that and the ferry a try. Is there anywhere where you can get a good view into the docks themselves?

What I'd really like to get is good view over to the London Container Terminal, and the lock gates, too, if possible, probably from the Kent side.

Chris,

You can't really get a decent view of the docks or the container berths from Tilbury itself, unless you have legitimate business in the dock complex and can get through security!

It will be best to go over to Gravesend. Ken Smith is your man to ask regarding exact locations but he might be too busy being webmaster to notice this thread. You could pop him a quick PM though and I'm sure he'd help.

Thanks again, chaps.

We're down in Kent later in the month, and will be coming from the Essex direction, so we'll have a crack at getting some footage.

Have to see where the best place to shoot from is on the Kent side still . . any viewpoints recommended?

Hi Chris,

Personally I find town pier in Gravesend a good place to get photos from along with the industrial estate in Thames Way, although there is limited parking 2hrs with a heavy fine if you stay over this time. Asda offer 3 hours parking for the "expensive" price of 50p for 3 hours  ;) this location is a 2 minute walk from the river.

Best Regards

Trev

Thanks, Trev. Much to Dot's disgust (aka swmbo), I'll be having a meander around there next weekend - looking forward to it already!
