Hmmm. I think it is getting more murky, rather than clearer.
Look at the BBC's latest report:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-21059326
So, if there are plans to use the ship as a floating hotel, one wonders:
Wasn't this the original aim when it went to Dubai? And failed
If they mean something along the lines of modern cruise ships, what on earth would the cost be?
To be honest, I don't believe a word of it.
I presume the dry docking would be to give the hull a good scrape. Then would come the long tow to somewhere in South East Asia. Once that is under way, just watch the gossip & rumours fly!

It seems like good news but I'll believe it when I see it. :-\

This will happen, it is the real deal. She will go to Hong Kong.
Whether or not she is a success is another story altogether...........!!

I'm with Faith here in the "believe it when I see it" category.
The Oceanic Group have many attributes on their web site, telling us how they manage cruise ships. Equasys shows them as managing or owning none.
Also, their web site mentions QE2 floating about hither and thither but has no clear definition of at least a first berth for the ship.
Their QE2 Hotels site does mention Asia Pacific region so that means it won't be staying in Dubai.
Hmmm!
Let's wait and see.

My bet is a scrap yard somewhere in China, or will she end up like the Oriana

My local newspaper is reporting that she is going to 'Asia' to be used as a hotel.

Is it just me or does the "as a floating hotel in Asia pacific" seem to have been Photoshopped in? The colors behind "Asia pacific" don't seem to match the rest of the image..
Enough torque to restart a dead planet! OOW with an unlimited CoC looking for work. :)

I read in these newspaper articles "floating luxury hotel". It does sound nice, but:
I know, that ships cabin, also QE 2 cabin, are luxury for a ship, and the QE2 s might even be now a bit outdated luxury.

But really, the ship can not compete with anything that calls itself "luxury hotel" on land.

I know, in China and Hong Kong there are masses of migratory workers from the countryside and there is lack of accommodation, so I would not be surprised, if the ship ends up as an accommodation ho(s)tel for migratory workers, who are needed in these fast growing cities of Asia.

Therefore, I do not really trust what the news write, I see they are playing a bit with the readers hope  ;D

Well, that leads to the question if it is better to see her scrapped or preserved in a different matter, maybe totally gutted to install a proper and contemporary accommodation?

If she is being refitted in Hong Kong let's hope she doesn't end up like the RMS Queen Elizabeth which was to be Seawise University.
