Also, I don't see one major shipping line order for 5 x 18k TEU ships in HHI...
Why?

Just saying.

Some time ago, it was announced that CSCL is to order five 18,000 TEU ships, but this was not mentioned in the article.

@Pavlo, my guess on propulsion of Triple Es is twin MAN 8G80ME-C engines...

Hi,

Can confirm Triple-E vessels have same engine as the WAFMAX series 2 x MAN B&W 8580 MEC9.2

Hi Andrew,

For the record, I believe that the correct engine designation is 8S80ME-C9.2. The '8S' denotes that it's a 8-cylinder single-acting direct-drive diesel engine.

I am not sure about "S" designation.

Rather, a number of sources state "G" type of MAN B&W ultra-long stroke engine, which is less powerful (but more economic) of the "S" type.

Obviously, at this stage I don't have anything official.

Info I rec'd from Maersk at the yard is the 'S' type engine, I double checked my notes after my original post stated 8580 which was a typo!!

Without wishing to play down the information Andrew has, in the absence of any press release from MAN B&W or Maersk, a lot of uncertainty remains over the exact nature of the propulsion systems.

The S-series engines are quite old and don't really fit in with Maersk's claim of a new, ultra-efficient ship design. One the other hand, the G-series is a brand new ultra-long stroke design which, on paper, seems far more suitable and especially compatible with the large, slow rotating props which have been specified. Some articles are claiming that the engines are only 6-cylinder, however, there is photo evidence to confirm that they are, in fact 8-cylinder
http://gcaptain.com/worlds-largest-ship-photos-maersk-moller/ (scroll down)

Some sources (and I am reliably informed) are suggesting that the engines are the 8G80ME-C9.2 type which, frankly, I would put my money on.

From various recent media articles, I have noted the following, and quote;

Hapag Lloyd: Ordered 10 x 13196 teu vessels of which 6 delivered, 1 more to be delivered in 2013 and the final 3 in 2014.

K Line: Ordered 5 x 13870 teu vessels for delivery in 2015

NOL/APL: ordered 10 x 14000 teu vessels, the first delivered in Spring 2013.

Yang Ming: Ordered 5 x 14000 teu with an option to charter another 5 from Seaspan.

CSCL: Ordered 5 x 18000 teu for delivery 2016 (in addition to the existing 8 x 14000 teu vessels)

Maersk: 20 x Triple E's at 18000 teu for delivery 2013 - 2015 (in addition to the existing 8 x 15500 teu E class)

Already delivered and in service:

OOCL/NYK: 2 x 13208 teu
Cosco: 1 x 13386 teu and 8 x 13114 teu
UASC: 9 x 13500 teu
Hanjin: 9 x 13000 teu
CMA CGM: 3 x 16020 teu and 2 x 13830

MSC: ?
Evergreen: ?

It would be very interesting to build up a picture of newbuild information on the site.

According to linervision, the second Triple E delivery - Majestic Maersk - will make a small diversion from its AE10 route to undertake an " exceptional " visit to Copenhagen between 23rd and 29th September 2013.

Rumours are running that she will get her name by the Danish Queen, who is very experienced in this Majestic-name-business.

My bet is that there will also be an open-ship event for the general public just as
Maersk Line used to do previously. Time to make a contingency plan for booking of a hotel room in Copenhagen :-)

Lloyds Loading List on 14th June reported:-

Never before has a cargo vessel been built under such a glare of publicity.

Today will see the first of Maersk Line
