Trip onboard Museumship "Greundiek" to Hamburg
« on: May 19, 2011, 07:25:24 PM »
The celebrations for Hamburg harbour birthday from another point of view, this year, namely from the water side, to avoid all the masses of people blocking just every way in the city.

I had booked a trip from Stade to Hamburg on the 1950 built museum-coaster "Greundiek".

The trip started early morning 07.30, at the old port of Stade, where there are also located a few other museumships.

More infos on the ship, in German:
http://www.landschaftsverband-stade.de/greundiek1.html

Because pictures say more than 1000 words, I won't use many words here. Enjoy the pictures, ask questions, ask google or any other search engine of your choice :-)

Ship gets turned, and down river Schwinge

looking back

River Elbe, and one of the new container giants just passing by

We were overtaken by few other ships, of course was useful to have the camera ready.

At noon, there was a parade of museum ships in Hamburg, for the celebrations of the harbour birthday, which we joined.

We didn't berth anywhere in Hamburg, but there was plenty to see in the different parts of the harbour.

We were back around 18.00 in Stade.
Was a perfect day trip, and the whole thing not expensive, at 35 Euros per person :-) Food and drinks were available onboard as well for a moderate price.

Of course the trip was also with "Sound" as here provided on the website by someone who has done a similar trip  ;D

Excellent, Cornelia, just excellent!
Must have been a wonderful day on this nice old ship.

And, as a bonus, some small/big/mega containerships around
as well.

When does Greundiek open for bookings for next year  ;)

Niels

Thanks for your comments, nice to hear you like the report !

Derek, next time no green with envy, but with green ship to Hamburg :D I don't know when they are doing the next trips, because this summer they are also visiting various ports with an exhibition about wind-energy. But I heard no charter for next year, so I suppose there will be more guest-tours. The ship can also be hired, if there are enough people, btw.  ;)

Marvelous Cornelia! Must have been a wonderful day! Only, I think I have missed your ship to picture it!

Next year better, can we have a pint together!
