Time zone settings
« on: November 20, 2009, 02:57:09 PM »
Hello, long time, no see. Hope everyone's well?

My time zone in my profile is set to GMT, yet I see that posts and settings are six hours behind. I signed in here just after 2pm GMT, and it told me I had signed in at 0807. This is odd. Is it just me, or do other people notice this too?

many thanks
Faith

Hi Faith

Probably something else that will need fixing when the new site eventually comes on stream, although I have never understood why we need a 'time stamp', I would have thought a date is sufficient.

Posting this from the UK @ 15.02 , so lets see what time it stamps it in.

- 6 hours out.

Regards

I asked this question some time ago. The time stamp is the time on the server in the US, not the time zone of the member.

Thank you Steve and Bob. I think the solution then, is to set my time zone to +6 hours which will then show the correct time for GMT.

Yep, that works.

Hi Faith

If only it was as simple as that!

Only those in the same Time Zone as you will see the correct time - i.e. what GMT is at. For instance I changed my setting to +6 hours and saw the GMT time stamp as 15.22 but when I changed it back to GMT you time stamp was back to 09.22.

Still, bigger and better things to be sorted out on the site I suppose
 :-)

Hi,

I doubt that the time stamp will change or even if it is possible. Imagine the confusion it would cause on the site if the time reflected the time zone, we could post a photo or post in the forum here in the UK and another member in the US could reply or comment to it six hours before we made the post  :-?

Now I am confused! LOL!
Never mind, it's not that important, I suppose. I'll switch it back to GMT and mentally extrapolate.

Hi,

I'm sure i remember reading on this forum some time back that the servers were being moved to Sweden? or something like that, oh well, Sweden, US, as long as the site is working ok that's all that matters!

Cheers
Richard

Hi Richard

Its gone back across the Pond to the States if I remember correctly this one of the planned moves by the new owners. That is if this comment from them in October meant the transfer?

1- The shipspotting.com DNS is finally (after some problems) being transferred to AirNav Systems this week
