« on: August 30, 2009, 05:41:34 AM »
Just on news here. No names yet.
One of the ships got on fire, but the fire is under control.
I'll be out to the Maasvlakte now.

Fred

MSC Nikita has been holed in the engineroom area, she is laying down on the stern at the moment. All crew has left the vessel and has been picked up by the coastguard. Tugs are in position to assist the casualty.

Nirint Pride has been on fire for a while but that is now under control, she has damage to the bow and lost some containers. One person is evacuated with breathing problems.

I'll guess they will be towed to Rotterdam as that's the only port in the area large enough and with enough resources for the ships to be stabilized and repaired.

Just had a quick look at www.marinetraffic.com/ais.
Attending vessels are:

Coastguard vessel ETV Waker, IMO: 7522124
Navy vessel HrMs Luymes, IMO 9271860
Tug Pegasus, IMO 9433743
Tug RT Margo, IMO 9376220
Tug RT Spirit, IMO 9190054

Also involved are vessels of the KNRM (the Royal Dutch Rescue Organisation) and a Coastguard plane to look for the missing containers and oilspills.

From both vessels involved in the collision no AIS signal but I guess they must be Blacked out. (at least the MSC Nikita will as I imagine the ER being flooded)

As we speak (12:45 NL LT) the Nirint Pride is approaching Moerdijk Harbour assisted by Smit Ierland & Avant 7. The RWS 21 is attending as well by the looks of it.

All above mentioned vessels are still on location on the North Sea, off Rotterdam.

More pics of the Nirint Pride here: http://www.tugspotters.com/dev/index.php?itemid=17914#more

Guess her pride is bit dented!!

Seems the MSC Nikita is still at sea, with the same vessels still standing by.

For pics of the half sunken MSC NIkita please go here: Maasmond Maritiem , and select page 10/11. It's the Newsclippings nr 239 of today 31-08-2009.

If that doesn't work or is replaced with the newest one: here it is as well on

40 km from Hook of Holland, in the Maas Approach range.
I don't know where they were heading for originally.
Cheers
