tanker ASPHALT COMMANDER scrapped
« on: May 06, 2008, 04:05:27 AM »
Not sure if anyone has heard yet, the U.S. Jones Act tanker ASPHALT COMMANDER arrived at the shipbreakers in Chittagong last month.
Sad to see that big gal go.  Found it odd that this 80s built tanker was scrapped before all those 70s built tankers that are still out there today sailing the seas

Are there any India members on here that could maybe get a shot of the tanker beached?

This link shows the Asphalt Commanders location off the coast of India on April 11th 2008 (the last update):  http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shipposition.phtml?call=WFJN

Some info of scrapping here:  http://www.bridgedeck.org/mmp_news_archive/2008/mmp_news080310.html#anchor838847

Here is my very last photo I took of the gal:

Can confirm that Asphalt Commander was beached at Chittagong on 20/4/2008. (BTW, Chittagong is Bangladesh  8-) )
