The MCA seems not to be the organisation it once was.
One MCA spokesman, quoted in the BBC article said "this vessel was in a very poor way when we saw her in Portland". Fair enough.
Then their own press release said it was in Southampton. As far as I know, the ship had not been to Southampton!
Also, the MCA web site used to be better organised, with regular, reasonably up to date notices of detentions etc.
Not any more. The last list of detentions I can see was in December 2009 and they related to incidents in the previous October.
Veritas shows the ship was surveyed 23 Sept 2009 and there was an inspection at Keroman (Lorient) only 8 days before it was detained in Portland.
It looks as if the Keroman inspection consisted of checking the documents from the Sept 23 survey.
I also noticed the Equasis has the status of this ship as "In Casualty Or Repairing" since 25/11/2009, although Germanischer Lloyd have issued new certificates this week.
It must have been in a poor state to have been out of service for 2 months!
