Hi Cawky

Good to see her on time departure - now all we need is the weather to go with her arrival in the Port of Tyne - weather forecast is suggesting that it may rain  :-(

Hi Steve ,

Do you think many people will turn out?

The South Shields Gazzette predicted 20 000  people.

When the QE 2 first visited Liverpool ,they reckon it was nearly a million people turned out!!

I think there will be more than 20 000 , how mant people do you yhink Steve ?

and any one else please have a guess.

Regards Cawky

Hi Cawky

The crowd will be governed by what the weather turns out to be like, after all there is no cover at all alongside the river.

Looking on the bright side, no rain, I would anticipate something in the region of 100,000 onlookers. If it is raining then I would expect perhaps 20,000.

Of course it always makes me wonder how the "powers to be" actually come up with the numbers attending these events, especially when the spectators will be so spread out?

Hi Steve ,

I would think 100,000 could be  a good guess.
It is amazing how they work out the amount of people, have you ever been to the Sunderland Air Show ? On a good Sunday the officials reckon that they have had  half a million people attend, and that is on a small stretch of coast.

The QE2 is making good progress on the AIS , she is doing 17.5 knots and was leaving the Isle of Wight heading across the channel to the French Coast, she will have to travel up the French side of the channel due to the traffic seperation zones .

I can't believe how many people are expected, I've had to change my posotion tomorrow from the Little haven Pier to the Noth Shields fish quay so I can rush from there to the ferry terminal to get on the Queen of Scandinavia!

Still it should be a good day providing the weather!

Kevin :-)

Hi Kevin

Well you should be able to take some pretty unique photographs of the QE2 from on board the QOS - hopefully you will post some here  :-)

This ship attracts the crowds where ever she goes rain hail or shine!

No doubt this being her 40th birthday cruise which is even more unique will bring a few extras out.

She always draws a crowd in Hobart and always brings the good weather with her.

There is a slight problem the Queen comes in at 7:30 and by the time I am on her it will be dark, but I will try but if it's too dark, I won't bother. :-)

Hi Kevin

It will be a very difficult task to take any decent photographs if it is dark. I've tried before to take photographs a night from a moving ship (even with movement at berth). However you might just get lucky, so good luck  :-)

Its not just her 40th Anniversery cruise. It is for many/ most of the public to see her for a final time before she is fitted out to be a floating hotel and permantly moored in Dubai. I will be out later on to get some shots and will sort them out later.
