Authorities in Spain say they have foiled a plot to blow up a ferry carrying thousands of British tourists.
A member of Basque separatist group Eta was detained at a bus station in the port city of Santander on Spain's north coast.
And according to reports the Pont-Aven ferry which sails between Plymouth and Santander twice a week was one of three possible targets.
Police sources said the suspect - Aritz Arginzoniz Zubiarre - was waiting for explosives and a car to arrive before carrying out his attack.
He was allegedly carrying a pistol, a timer and false identity documents when he was arrested and had drawn attention to himself because of a backpack he was carrying.
When officers moved in to identify him he told them he was a member of ETA
Spanish interior minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba said: "ETA is going to keep on trying to attack, but we are going to keep on trying to make sure they don't succeed."
ETA has killed more than 800 people since 1968 in its campaign for an independent Basque state.
Pont-Aven operator Brittany Ferries insisted there was no threat to the ferry."
