Zhen Hua 17 at Felixstowe
« on: December 07, 2006, 11:42:09 PM »
I see that Zhen Hua 17 is due at Felixstowe in the next few days after a stop at Rotterdam. Does anybody know what equipment she is delivering this time? There does not appear to be any due Felixstowe orders shown on the ZPMC website.

Zhen Hua 17 has arrived at the Sunk anchorage according to my AIS receiver. Furthermore the arrival at Felixstowe has been put back yet again.
As Felixstowe does not appear to have an equipment order due, I was wondering if she is here with a replacement ship to shore crane or perhaps she will be removing the buckled one. In the end it will probably just turn out to be more rubber tyre gantry cranes!

Joe,
We have just had "No 11" in Brisbane dropping of several cranes after a delivery to Fremantle.
She left on the weekend for Auckland with 2 cranes.
This is pretty scary stuff when you consider the $$$ involved and the fact that the Chinese seem to have the business sewn up in another VITAL international industry.
Takeover by stealth?
I wonder.

I had a look at Zhen Hua first thing this morning and she was empty. There were some heavy lift cranes working alongside her presumably preparing to load her with the buckled ship to shore crane.

She has been anchored in the Sunk anchorage since departing Felixstowe unladen earlier this week. Now she is scheduled to return to Felixstowe in the next few days. The first visit must have been a delivery of equipment to prepare the crane for transportation.

I took some photos when Zhen Hua 11 was in Fremantle.  Don't know if there were any delivered to the Port of Fremantle.

Some info from an NZ news site:

* The new container cranes are 103 metres high (boom up, or 73 metres high with their booms down).

* Each crane weighs 1,250-tonnes.

* Ports of Auckland invested $27 million in the three new container cranes

* The cranes were ordered in October 2005 and constructed by Zhenhua Port Machinery Company on the Yangtze River in Shanghai, China. The Company has facilities to allow the construction of up to 125 container cranes at any one time.
