Maltese bulker Krateros runs aground in Vancouver harbour

On the afternoon of Sept. 25th, 2006, the Krateros, fully loaded with grain, lost its steering while outbound from the inner harbour, and approaching the narrows of the Lions Gate Bridge. The scene was witnessed by thousands of people; unfortunately I wasn't one of them. Just a few kilometers away, but out of sight, I was on the beaches of English Bay taking ship photos. My wife and I noticed an inbound cruise ship that strangely came to rest in English Bay and sat there waiting until we had to leave. We knew something was up, but didn't find out until we read this morning's newspaper. The story can be accessed at the following site:
