R.I.P. ADRIAN FORD
« on: May 22, 2024, 07:27:20 PM »
Dear Users

It is my sad duty to announce the passing of Adrian Ford, our Vice-Webmaster. He died this morning in hospital in Kings Lynn after a short illness. Adrian joined the web site in September 2005, and was therefore one of our oldest members. Later he became an Admin, involved in the not always enviable task of dealing with the deletion process, which he carried with a great amount of dedication and care. In his later years as Vice-Webmaster he was of great help in further structuring the deletion process. He will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts are with his family.

A sad day.
Adrian was a constant companion and support during my tenure in the hot seat and did much to make the unenviable responsiblity for managing deletions a more objective process - as well as spilling the beans on some of the inside history for me as a relative newcomer.  The best kind of backroom-guy for ShipSpotting.

When I last saw him, some six weeks ago, he was busy with his well-laid plans to move on after the recent loss of his mother, whom he had looked after for many years; but is was not to be.
Yes, he will indeed be much missed.

David

I have known Adrian for over 30 years and am privileged to be able to call him my friend. He was a cheerful and funny man who cared a lot for others. We first met of course through our shared love of ships and ports. I visited his home many times where over the last ten years or so he cared for his Mother to allow her to live in her own home, until her recent passing. Adrian was a leading light in the Wash Ports Branch of the World Ship Society for many years, and arrangend for me to give many presentations to the branch. I fondly remember his "heckling" and jokes which amused us all at the meetings.

Adrian was a diligent worker on behalf of Shipspotting.com and spent many an hour at his PC for the benefit of the site and its members. Whilst of course he was keeping a watchful eye on his Mother. He put aside the more active side of Ship photography to enable him to care and instead immersed himself in the digital world of ships. He had not even visited his home port of Wisbech for many years and his foreign trips were a distant memory.

With the onset of Diabetes, Adrian was no longer able to drive but friends and neighbours transported him to the shops and hospital appointements etc.

Myself and my wife last saw Adrian at the recent funeral of his Mother, and he was his usual self, little did we know her loss was to seriously affect his health. Sadly his recent passing was a shock to us all, but he will never be forgotten. When I think of him it will be something that will put a smile on my face, as he always made me laugh.

Derek
