Clyde Dickens has passed away
« on: October 08, 2023, 10:22:24 AM »
Hello all,

Sad news reached us today via his daughter Robyn with the passing of Clyde Dickens, our long time FAQ Administrator and loved ship photographer from Sydney, Australia. Clyde was known for his enthusiasm for ships, his kindness and for his high quality photos. He kept on photographing ships until the end even when he had to use a walker due to his high age of 94. Robyn asked us to make Clyde's passing known to all his friends at Shipspotting.com

Clyde, you will be sorely missed.

His legacy on the site can be viewed here:

On behalf of the entire Shipspotting Management Team, we'd like to express our sincere condolences to Clyde's family and friends.

This is such sad news.  My wife and I met Clyde and his wife Lorrie a number of times on our visits to Australia from the UK.  Lovely hospitable people.  In recent years Clyde and I enjoyed regular video calls discussing everything from our shared love of ships to world affairs.  In spite of his advanced years and health issues he had a very active brain and a sharp sense of humour.  RIP Clyde. You will be sorely missed.

Sad news, I met Clyde on a number of occasions at coffee spots around the harbour. I learned to respect his passion for ships, this site and his family. He will be sadly missed, he has left us with good memories and many fine photographs.

I am really saddened to read of the passing of long time contributor Clyde.

Clyde was a true gentleman; his friendly interactions among fellow ship spotters gave the website a sense of a living and flourishing community.

His contributions to ship spotting are much valued.

Rest in peace, Clyde.

Rest in peace, Clyde. You were always ready to help, and gave me excellent advice on ship spotting locations around Sydney.

Condolences to his family.

Sad news , I communicated with Clyde over the years via email and once by phone while I was in Sydney but unfortunately time didn't allow for us to me up at the time. Thanks to Clyde for all the hard work he put into Shipspotting he will be greatly missed.
Rest in peace Clyde.

Sad news indeed.  Clyde was a stalwart and committed supporter for decades - very often out of sight, quietly encouraging good practice and a more professionally-minded and member-facing Admin, especially through the 2010s.  I wish I had followed his sage advice more assiduously sometimes.
He will be much missed.

Was lucky enough to have him as a friend on Facebook. One highlight each and every day was his kind comments and likes on my scruffy not to good photos. A true gentleman.
May you rest in peace, sir.

Hi Paul, I noticed the same thing. Unless it is a request from family it seems a shame. Would be nice to remember his legacy and commitment to the site.

Yes it would be very sad if that was the case.

Just a short notice: Clyde's name has been recovered again on the site, removing it was a human error and not intentional.
