Maersk Inverness IMO 9348156 is doing a one off voyage Shanghai to Timaru where she is due 25 March. She will then presumably spend a month at anchor as she is due to load in Sydney 29 April to slot in on the ECNA schedule.

An old friend is returning to NZ shores. Nicolai Maersk IMO 9192454 is to join Trieste Trader on a new Trans Tasman service. She will do a southbound sailing from Singapore and Tanjung Pelepas to Sydney, She will then slot into the Melbourne - Auckland - Nelson - Timaru - Lyttelton - Melbourne schedule. The call into Auckland will made on every second voyage.

Maersk's new Trans Tasman schedule is called Polaris. A third vessel B Trader IMO 9813802 will join the service in May, With the launch of this service Maersk are phasing out the Coastal Connect schedule serviced by Maersk Nadi and Maersk Nansha.

Rather than being at anchor she will do a coastal voyage Timaru - Tauranga - Nelson - Port Chalmers, before heading to Melbourne to load for ECNA. She will then return to Port Chalmers and Tauranga before heading to Panama.

Does this mean that Maersk Nadi and  Maersk Nansha will no longer be NZ crewed?

Maersk Nadi is finishing in Lyttelton, and Maersk Nansha in Tauranga. I presume these ports are where the new crews will take over.

Thank you for that. Such a shame, think it was originally intended to be two years.

That should read "AS NADIA" IMO: 9321897 - the former "NORDSPRING" of K.E. Oldendorff (2007).

Lyttelton has capacity issues in its terminal, so Maersk have decided to use the retiring Maersk Nadi and Maersk Nansha to load containers for Asia at the end of their NZ service. They will load direct from Timaru and Nelson on their repositioning voyages,, reducing demand their usual tranship arranegment will incur, and also the Southern Star service (Rio's) will now have a fixed berth window at Lyttelton to improve Maersk's schedules.

Rangitata is now making 1 or 2 voyages per week between Napier and Gisborne for export containers. The Wairoa Road won't re-open for several months which is presumably the duration of the service. That said, the Napier/Taupo road was originally going to be closed for "months" but re-opened in 5 weeks, so possibly a similar result may change this fixture as well.
