Unable to edit photos
« on: August 11, 2022, 07:49:24 PM »
Hi, I have searched the forum but cannot find a similar thread.

While trying to edit & update a photo of mine ( https://www.shipspotting.com/photos/3456456 ) - when clicking on  the 'edit' button, the screen goes to the correct editing screen for a millisecond, then goes completely blank, and stay that way.

I have tried over two days, cleared cookies, logged out, then in again, but to no avail.

Any suggestions please, or is there a web functionality problem?

Many thanks,
Rick

Hi Rick,

usually the edit button could be found beneath the photo when you clicked on "More".

I just realized that the edit function is completely gone (at least for me). There's only the "full screen" option when I click on "More"...

Maybe a temporary glitch due to work on the site layout?

Thanks Jens (nice to hear from you again; I hope you are well) and thanks Patrick for your information.
Last night I tried to upload a photo, and that too, resulted in a totally white screen with zero functionality!
Hmm, maybe it is a 'work in progress' or maybe it is my account.. I cannot tell.
Today, 12/08/22, the problems persist.

Admins??  ;)

Many thanks, Rick

Rick - do you have another device you can try it on?

The plot thickens - I have just tried to upload a photo (scan) and I can enter all the details but as soon as the photo is added the screen goes white. Over to IT :)

EDIT - I note there appears to be a new feature (or I haven't noticed it before) where the date of the photo is auto filled - as my scan doesn't have any exif data could this be the issue?

I can now confirm it appears to be an issue with photos that do not have exif data to fill the date taken field - I have replicated the issue with one of my older photos that I knew had no exif data ( I had entered the date manually) - when trying now to edit I get a white screen.

I tried to correct a tanker shot with a wrong IMO number, and the issue described above also appeared. A brief showing of the edit page and then a blank. I'll inform IT.

Hello members,

As indicated by some of you there was in fact an issue related to the EXIF data parser on the Edit and Upload forms, which caused the entire page to crash.

Regarding the Edit button, the photo controls have been going through an overall in terms of layout. And as suggested by a member, the edit button is a crucial control that should not be buried in a menu. As such it is now located on the same level as the other controls.
An additional restriction is that this button should be presented only to the photo submitter and to members of the administration team. This restriction was not previously in place for the presentation of the button, it was only enforced on the edit form page.

Minutes ago was deployed a fix for the issues mentioned in this thread. They should not occur again.

Thank you all for your feedback.
Cheers
