Mirrorless camera experiences?
« on: June 21, 2022, 08:29:24 PM »
Hello all,

During a recent trip to Sweden my Nikon D3300 sadly died and repairing it no longer makes economic sense. As a result I'm now tasked with finding a replacement for it and I'm finding that a little difficult. Second hand models I've come across often seen even older models than my current D3300 which I'm a little hesitant about. My current lenses are the 18-55 it came with, a 35mm and a Tamron 18-200mm for shipspotting.

Apparently if you're buying new, mirrorless camera's are the way forward and as I have few Nikon lenses, I'm a bit of a free agent in terms of brands / systems / lens mounts. An adapter is available to use older lenses on a new mirrorless Nikon body but costs around

Hi Cedric,

I have no personal experience as yet, but I hear very positive reactions from (professional) people who have switched from DSLR,s (and expensive ones too). Only in the rarest of occasions they will miss the DSLR, and possibly for shooting ships these could be a good option. The only thing is that I very much like a heavy camera (combined with a heavy lens) because the weight also increases the inertia, reducing camera movements either from moving your arms or from external factors such as wind.  I use a 3,5 kg Canon combo (1Dx+28-300) not only for shipspotting, but I also carry it around for a weekend at the races, three days long.

Cheers

Pieter

Thanks for your input Pieter, perhaps I should hit the gym so I get more used to carry a heavier camera  ;D
