So, if I understand this correctly, if you process the RAW image, it becomes a JPEG?

After post processing, you can save the image as a jpg or some other file type.

It is just like the negatives we used to have. You file them (preferably on an external and back-upped disc) and retrieve them whenever you want to do something special.
