Matt. you will find the last photo to be LAKE LISI, with photo id 17. This means that the first 16 shots are no longer on the site.

As I understand the site, the "first" picture (number 17) was taken in 2004 but was added (posted) on July 10. 2006.

But the second one (number 19) the BERGSKALD - IMO 9131187, still taken in 2004 was added in 2008.

And, the third, number 20, the HELENE MAERSK - IMO 9034705 was added in 2006.

So, if you were looking for the first posted or added, I think some researches will have to be done unless you were looking for the first captured ship, which is the LAKE LISI - IMO 8207044.   ;)

Some of those early dates may not be reliable.  I understand that some data was corrupted many years ago when there was a big site crash.

To keep to maritime terms, comparable to the earth before and after Noah's arc.

The first uploaded photo will be by Tomas Pinas, the founder of shipspotting. Lake Lisi is probably correct.

Indeed David, many old pictures are on the site now with date added July 10 2006 even though they were actually uploaded before that. If I recall correctly this was due to the backups that were restored after the crash around that time.
