Maersk reveals new design of 8 green container ships
« on: December 08, 2021, 04:13:34 PM »
On www.maersk.com you can find a new video showing the new design of 8 ships being delivered in 2024.
Not much ship left. Only hull and boxes. Accomodation block forward and funnel aft. 350 m x 53,5 m.
Really missing the old L-class liners (Luna, Lexa etc.) Those were the days. Niels

I like the new design, strange it took too long for them to come up with something obvious as that.  However the forecastle is still opened & the superstructure is after it - why not to make the superstructure right above the forecastle how it's on X-Bow vessels?

Hello Denis. In an additional video Maersk´s chief designer mentioned that the crew comfort is an important objective in the new design. Somewhat strange. The X-bow vessel-design is extreme in this
respect as you mention. I have not seen any reports on this issue, however, it is clear that you need to have your cabin windows closed when you are on the high seas with the risk of running head on into a
rogue wave of some 30 meters! And then there is still Hapag-Lloyd´s München in 1978 where a rogue wave is believed to have smashed the windows of the bridge causing loss of power and steering control. Niels

That's strange for a ships without lifeboats

No view to the stern. Even radar is lower than the containers.

The narrative describing the new design includes the follows...."New arrangements for lifeboats and navigational lights had to be developed, plus new cameras to support the captain’s view when navigating".
