Hong Kong registered ships.
« on: December 06, 2021, 03:15:01 AM »
I recently posted an image of the PORT KENNY  -9291212- stern in which the vessel had two flags flying. The top one was the flag of the Peoples Republic of China whilst the lower flag was the traditional Hong Kong flag. The image has since been deleted by the mods , but I would like to know whether this is now common practice by this particular nation. Are foreign owned vessels registered in Hong Kong required to use two flags?
I seem to recall this being used during the second world war to indicate the capture of an opponents ship etc. with the victors flag flying above the vanquished... does any other country currently display their flag in this manner.
Could anyone cast a comment or define this practice.
Thank you
Anthony Legg

Hi Anthony, as far as I know it should indeed be indeed Chinese flag above HK flag for HK flagged ships.
Not sure though if all HK registered ships are doing that.
Cheers,
Roy

Thank you for the information, the Hong Kong registration documentation explains the situation and I will let the matter drop.
Kindest Regards,
